Call for Applications

There are still vacancies on the Student Council!

In the period until November 22, 2024, the vacant positions of the student council of the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg for the 2023 legislature will be advertised. The activity in a StuRa-Refrat is honorary, but a monthly expense allowance is granted. The Student Council is the highest executive body of student self-government. In addition to department-specific activities, it meets weekly to discuss and decide on general matters.

Vacant positions are currently being advertised in three departments:

  • University Policitics (2 positions)
  • Public Relations and Communication (1 position)
  • Culture (1 position)

Applications can be submitted digitally by email to praesidium@stupa-btu.de or in person at the Student Council office until November 22, 2024, 3 pm. For the digital application please use this form . To verify your student status, we also ask you to provide a current certificate of enrollment, your matriculation number or your BTU e-mail. The election will take place in a meeting of the student parliament. You will be given the opportunity to introduce yourself to the members of parliament and explain your motivation for applying. Participation in this meeting is not compulsory, but highly recommended. We will send you more specific information about the election date at the end of the call for applications. However, we reserve the right to extend the call for applications again if the number of applications is too low.

Profiles of the Deparments

The Department for University Politics represents the interests of students at the state level and, if necessary, at the federal and university levels. Regular contact with university management and the Ministry of Science, Research, and Culture is required for this role. Active participation in the Brandenburg Student Representation (BRANDSTUVE) is also encouraged. The referent serves as the point of contact for all university political issues. Due to the thematic closeness, close coordination with the Department for Committee Support and the Student Parliament is essential.

In accordance with §19 (3) of the Satzung der Studierendenschaft (regulation of the student body), the department is obligated to report its monthly activities to the respective department commission. Regular attendance at Student Council meetings is also anticipated.

Tasks, Focus Areas, and Projects of the Department include:

  • Evaluation of teaching and legal regulations at the state level
  • Familiarization with the statutes and regulations of the Student Body of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
  • Close collaboration with the Student Parliament
  • Contact and exchange with university political organizations and groups
  • Inter-university networking (including through BRANDSTUVE, fzs) and information sharing with student bodies
  • Networking with university management, the senate, municipal decision-making bodies, and the Ministry of Science, Research, and Culture (MWFK) in cooperation with the Student Parliament's Executive Board
  • Planning and execution of actions to strengthen the political interest and education of the student body of BTU
  • Cross-departmental support

We are looking for

Engaged, team-oriented, interested students who are familiar with the basics of office communication and enjoy challenging independent work. Expectations include a basic understanding of the structure of academic and student self-governance, as well as familiarity with the higher education landscape in Brandenburg. A willingness to travel within Brandenburg is advantageous. In addition to general interests in politics and engagement with state politics, this mediating position requires a strong presence. The referent should be open to the ideas of the student body. Proficiency in German and basic knowledge of English are desired.

Candidates should convincingly express their motivation for applying and outline their potential post-election plans during an introductory session in the student parliament or through other means

The department „Public Relations and Communication” maintains the transparency of the student self-governance. The responsibilities of the referees lie in presenting the work of the student council (Studierendenrat, StuRa) and the student parliament (Studierendenparlament, StuPa) by coordinating and implementing information and advertisement campaigns. This includes the maintenance of the StuRa/StuPa webpage and the presentation of the student self-governance in various kinds of media.

According to §19 (3) Satzung der Studierendenschaft (regulation of the student body), the department has to inform the respective department-commission monthly of its executed activities.

Tasks, Thematic Focus and Projects of the Department are i.a.

  • Devising of creative ideas to present the public image of the student self-governance
  • Communicating the work of StuRa/ StuPa to the student body (i.a. through the webpage, newsletters, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Taking care of the Mensa-Infoscreen and the webpage (i.a. upload of protocols and appointments)
  • Supporting the other departments in the creation of flyers or other forms of advertisement
  • Ensuring that information is accessible by international students
  • Informing about the activities of the student and academic self-governance
  • Cooperation with the StuPa and StuRa to develop ideas for raising the voter turnout rate of students
  • Cooperation with other types of media of the city and the university
  • Communicating with the student associations
  • Cross-departmental support

We are looking for

Committed, team-minded and manifold culturally interested students, with basic skills in office communications and who enjoy an autonomous style of work. To be successful in this position, it is beneficial to have an open personality and be communicative. It would be advantageous for candidates to have previous experiences with graphic and image editing softwares (e.g. Photoshop, Canva) and knowledge about WordPress (Elementor). Good German language skills are required .

The candidates should be able to communicate their motivation behind applying for this department convincingly.

The Culture Department's task is to represent and promote the cultural interests of the student body at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. This includes collaborating with students, departmental student councils, and student initiatives and associations, as well as providing guidance to them. Organizing cultural events that impact the entire student body is a central responsibility of the department.

In accordance with §19 (3) of the Satzung der Studierendenschaft (regulation of the student body), the department is obligated to report its monthly activities to the respective department commission. Regular attendance at Student Council meetings is also anticipated.

Tasks, Focus Areas, and Projects of the Department include:

  • Preserving and strengthening the cultural life at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
  • Organizational support for projects and promotion of cultural exchange (e.g., Culture Nights).
  • Supporting event organizers (e.g., in finding venues and creating safety concepts).
  • Advising ongoing projects.
  • Collaboration with student associations/initiatives and the Student Services (e.g., OTIWO e.V., Muggefug e.V., Bühne 8 e.V.).
  • Coordinating the Roundtable of Event Organizers.
  • Coordinating, organizing, and nurturing student events.
  • Promoting small-scale art and connecting with local subculture actors.
  • Organizing and promoting events to enhance the visibility of the Student Parliament and Student Council.
  • Cross-departmental support

We are looking for

Engaged, team-oriented, culturally versatile students who are familiar with the basics of office communication and enjoy challenging independent work. Strong organizational skills are the foundation for successful work in this department. Candidates should be fluent in both spoken and written German and have at least a good command of English . Candidates should be sociable, capable of networking, and open to new experiences.

Candidates should convincingly express their motivation for applying and outline their potential post-election plans during an introductory session in the student parliament or through other means.
